GILL MANLY

ALL THAT'S GOOD IN JAZZ VOCALS

WHAT THE CLUBS, MUSICIANS AND PUBLIC SAY....

 THE CLUBS.......

"Some singers, like fine wines, improve and mature over time. Gill Manly, with more than 20 years of performing ageless material, exudes confidence and musicality in everything she does. An excellent singer, highly recommended".    STEVE RUBIE, 606 JAZZ CLUB, LONDON

"Great voice, terrific vocal range and technique, commanding stage presence, and packed houses.  The audience and Ronnie Scott's Club loves Gill Manly."    SIMON COOK, RONNIE SCOTT'S, LONDON

 AMAZON REVIEWS 2009

"On this album, a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, Gill has created a most beautiful album. This is a most personal recording. All the songs are being sung, intimately, for me, for you. Here we have an an album that captures the alchemy of a great artist. This is not the Gill belting it passionately from her guts, who I have heard before. These are songs from the heart that touch the heart, from a singer who knows the art of singing. This is the sort of album that will still be bought in 30 or 40 years time, with people admiring this great artist and wondering why she did not make more albums. "    MR STEVE SINCLAIR *****

"Great songs lovingly, jazzily interpreted. What a wonderful voice! As velvety as Ella Fitzgerald, with a little bit more of an edge. She has terrific range, technically and emotionally. I am loving this compilation: play it alot. Some of the songs tinkle away in the background quite happily, nice jazz etc, and then a twist in her voice pinches you to attention. Very soulful: sumptuous I'd say. Like a tens machine to the chest! "  MS E DAY *****

"Gill's voice never ceases to amaze me - this compilation is a joy to listen to and is long overdue. I am so glad it is out before Valentine's Day as it is the perfect gift. Gill is a very gifted singer with such a joyful heart... you can hear it in every note! A great compilation and credit must also go to Simon Wallace's production. I am already looking forward to the next album... "   MR M KEAR *****

WHAT DO HER FELLOW MUSICIANS THINK..............

"Many great singers have recorded this song, (Spring can really hang you up the most”), I'm proud that Gill Manly is one of them.

FRAN LANDESMAN

"Oh oh oh..YES!! The news that Manly has finally committed tonsil to tape has clattered around the jazz circuit and I for one am thrilled. Just to get the unmastered pre-release was a gift from the gods. I have always been a huge fan of Gills creamy soulful voice…..and to have it wrapped around the songs that we all learnt from Ella is just the proverbial icing. Dive in folks, it’s a thing of beauty."

IAN SHAW

"Gill has a wonderful range, great tone, excellent musicality and a deep understanding of the Great American Songbook; using her palette with taste and skill, she has made a recording which does her voice and talent justice and shows her to rightly be in the top league of British jazz. And she's a lovely woman, and a good friend, to boot!"

Gill Manly has been a well-kept secret for far too long. At last here's a long-awaited recording that captures her magic.
Accompanied by an exceptional band of musicians with the legendary jazz singer Mark Murphy as her special guest, Gill has managed to breathe new life into these much-loved standards and is in sublime vocal form.  A real treat.
SIR RICHARD RODNEY BENNETT

I first heard Gill Manly sing when I was 16 at a Sunday lunchtime gig in South London.  I was mesmerised! Here on this album she demonstrates beautifully the art of vocal control,  something that Gill has naturally and which so many of us strive for usually throughout our singing careers!   Her choice of material is inspired as each song seems made for her.  The band are sublime with Guy Barker weaving magic throughout.  Everything sounds effortless and her ballad singing is masterful.

I remember thinking the day I first heard her that she was worldclass,  I think this c.d just proves me right.

CLAIRE MARTIN

"You're never to old to sing your song and Gilly does just that.  Sing your song Miss Gilly.  It's about time"

SHEILA JORDAN

"The energy and strength of Gill Manly's voice and jazz work constantly amazes ME. Gill Manly has one of the finest vocal jazz conceptions in Britain today."
MARK MURPHY
